Things Too Wonderful

God speaks in so many different ways.  Probably because we hear Him in so many different ways!  Part of my role in our Church is helping people learn how to hear and know the voice of God, and I love that when people open up and expect to hear Him they always do!

The wonderful thing about God is that He is the best communicator in the universe and He knows exactly how each of us hears Him best.

Think about trying to direct someone to a place they have never been before.  My husband likes to know the road numbers (I think that’s a man thing!), my Mum likes landmarks to guide her, while my Dad just needs to listen to the directions and he will memorise the ‘first left, third right’ etc.  I like to see a map and fix it in my mind before I set off… We all tend to have a best way of receiving communication.

And God understands that!

Which is why He may speak to one person through pictures, another through literature and art, another through the Bible (yes - I know He speaks to all of us through the Bible, but some receive more from Him that way), and to another through dreams.   I know people who have heard the audible voice of God, and others who ‘hear Him’ in their minds though not through their ears.  Some people feel what He feels.  Some hear Him through creation and some through song.

Most of us hear God in a variety of different ways.  But there is often one main way in which He speaks to you.

It’s well worth listening, and working out what that is.  Think about a time when God spoke to you and you knew beyond any doubt that it was Him.  How did you hear Him?  What did His voice sound like to you? How did you feel? 

And when you hear Him next time it will be easier.  But don’t expect Him to speak to you the same way He does to other people around you.  Your relationship with Him is unique.  So is your communication with Him.
